thanks man! whatever happened to that tom waits project?
:icondiegotripodi:
I guess the official status would be "permanently frozen". :hmm: I got around to talk with you and 4 other guys about doing that project, and hadn't found more people interested in participating. Plus, the guy who gave the idea of doing that didn't seem to bother too much about lending a hand looking for artists who may be interested in participating, and 20 songs to be illustrated among only 5 people is a heavy workload... so right now, all I can say is that it would be nice if we can re-activate it later (or coming up with something else that is interesting for a lot of artists to participate). The more the merrier! :D
:iconphigbilly:
yeah fair enough. shame though. it means i need to rack my brains for another way to collaborate with you... :)

A few weeks ago, I was talking with =germanshible who was one of the guys that was going to participate in the Waits project as well, and an idea we were talking about but haven't gotten around to define yet, was to come with a project of designing a poster mixing an actual movie with a band/musician.

For example, some of the ideas I had for that were an image mixing Lemmy from Motörhead as if he were a cowboy from some western, and the other one, mixing Iggy Pop with the 3 Stooges.

It's a bit of a crazy idea, I guess  But it could be fun to do, and everyone involved would get to do something according to their tastes.
Again, we haven't talked much about this, and I haven't mentioned it to Jeremy =madbaumer37 who was also in the Waits project, but I think it could work. What do you think? :sherlock:
:iconphigbilly:
hmmm... i like the idea... for some reason i have a vision of elvis and jimi in the costner/freeman roles from robin hood prince of thieves...!

although i'd love to work with you on anything, and i'm super busy just at the minute so anything immediate would most certainly have to be of a managable size, personally i'm more interested in narrative/story-telling projects. i know you have a few things going on already. but i'd love to do some kind of anthology and i was interested by that competition you mentioned in one of your blogs to design a wordless story... if we could get enough people together and do a collection of, for example, 4-page wordless stories, then self-publish and sell over the web...?!? too far-fetched...?!? or maybe this one is simply a longer term project?
:icondiegotripodi:
Hahaha well I think that's a terrific idea for the poster! :D

About story-telling projects, it would be cool to work with you on a comic man! :D If I find the time, I'll try to come down with ideas that I think would fit your style, and if you're cool with any of them, I'd love to script one of those for you to draw. ;)

Back to the poster project, there would be no deadlines, so it'll be more of doing it for fun, when all of the involved (and as we speak there is no one involved yet ) can find the time to work on a piece, and by the end it would be a nice collection of bizarre images, I guess. :D
:iconphigbilly:
r.e. poster project: cool, well i'll try and get cracking on that poster idea when i have a chance

r.e. possible collaboration: of course i'd be interested in hearing any ideas you might have, but i'd really love to figure out a way to bring our two drawing styles together... you know i love love love your art work... especially your grungey, splattery style. here's an idea to start with: how about i colour a piece of yours and you ink a piece of mine?!? what do you think?
:icondiegotripodi:
My printer is dead as I'm writing this, but as soon as I'd get to buy a new one, it would be cool to get to ink one of your drawings. I did some inking over other people's pencils in the past, and the results weren't very good, but I'm confident now I'll be able to adapt a little better to other styles. At least it'll be a nice experiment for us to do. I kind of associate your style with detailed colored work, while on the other hand I see mine as something that works best with flat colors, or at least as simple as possible colors, so I'm curious to see how both styles would mix... ;)

About the poster, I would suggest we wait until there are many of us really wanting to do it, and if everyone agrees to do a piece-- awesome, let's do it! But I don't want it to be like the Waits project (anyways, no one got around to draw anything for that one, but still...) :P
